Hi my name is John and along with my good friend and running buddy peter we are running the 50 mile challenge on the 19th of july, to try and raise funds for the pilgrims hospice which is a charity that is very close to my heart as they helped my family and I through some very tough times over the past 7 years. In 2007 my father in law Mick was diagnosed with cancer and sadly after a brave fight passed away soon after and then in 2013 my mum was also diagnosed with cancer which she also lost her life to. Both times were devastating to both families and one of the only bright spots was the amazing care they got in their final days from the nurses and doctors from the pilgrims hospice made the toughest of times just a little bit more bearable.

At the time of my mums diagnosis I decided to take up running I'm not sure if it was my mums illness that inspired me to get fit or the fact I was relatively unfit anyway..

fast forward 2 years and I'm still running and have managed to run a few marathons in that time which I'm extremely proud of and I know my mum and Mick would be proud of that too so I got thinking how I could do something for charity using my running I considered running a marathon to raise money but whilst completing marathons are impressive 50 miles is a little bit more impressive and it's beyond anything that me and pete have tried before I'm not sure if we can do it but we're going to give it our best shot so please donate whatever you can to help this amazing charity
