Story

DebRA-working for a life free of pain

There are two reasons why I have chosen this charity to raise money for

A few years ago I spent some time at Great Ormond Street Hospital with Rebecca my daughter . We stayed on the specialist  EB ward .It was heartrendering  realising the shocking pain  these children suffer. The dedication and care the nurses gave was outstanding

I now work for a medical company that produces innovative dressings .These dressings have had an impact on the childrens lives easing the pain for them

Tie's story

Tie was born with a severe form of EB(Epidermolysis Bullosa) .His skin cannot stick together. He blisters at the slightest knock and his clothes rub constantly.Everytime he rubs his eyes when he is tired he causes more wounds on his face .Rolling around his bed gives him blisters across his entire body. After drinking he gets blisters in his mouth ,down his throat and internal lining. His blisters need to be constantly lanced then dressed to prevent infection.

Tie's parents hope that one day it will be safe for them to give him a hug without worrying about the damage they will do to his fragile body

DebRA provides an expert team of nurses and social care staff to support the families affected by EB visiting them in their own homes and by being there on 24 hour call.

The charity also commissions world leading research into the condition with the aim of finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure for EB.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
