Thank you to all who contributed by ordering from the Caribbean lunch menu on 5th August. I will update you on monies raised soon.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So why this?..... My life today is a product of the changing effect of small gifts, from often unsuspecting individuals. Gifts that came from unconventional sources in unexpected ways, to push, motivate, support and assist me when I needed help most. These experiences have conditioned my heart to likewise impact the life of others.

The Challange..... From 11/9/10 to 19/9/10 I will be in Cape Town South Africa giving my time, physical energy, money and skills to building homes with Habitat for Humanity as part of a Global Village team. I will be working alongside local people and like minded volunteers from the UK to help build safe and decent homes for families currently living in South Africa's deprived townships.  All earn low incomes and live in poorly assembled, shack type housing the size of a standard bathroom.

The Charity..... In many parts of the world, a poor home is a breeding ground for life threatening dieases and low self-esteem, resulting in the waste of untapped potential. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity, this year over 1.5 million people around the world, will wake up every morning with their once appalling living conditions, a distant memory. The effect of this surpasses merely having a nice home. Indivivduals are are motivated to expect, strive for and achieve more. Hope can be built!

Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976, with the sole purpose of tackling poverty housing on a global scale. 32 years later, they work in over 90 countries, including the UK. With expertise in disaster reconstruction, Habitat for Humanity is playing a key role in the long-term rebuilding of Haiti, where badly constructed, cheaply resourced buildings drastically increase the death toll of the earthquake disaster on 12th January 2010.

How you can help..... the rewards of giving far exceed that of receiving. Often we fail to recognise the abundance of what we have, and therefore how much we have to give e.g. our time, financial assistance, talents and skils, an opportunity, or smaller seemingly insignificant things such as, a warm smile or loving hug.

Help me impact the life of a family, by giving them the dignity of a decent home. The average cost of building a Habitat for Humanity home in the developing world is £1235. I have personally donated £350 to this cause, but require your help to raise a minimum of £2000, out of which I will travel to South Africa. Please help me to reach this goal.... and possibly exceed it!

When people come together, good things happen. So dig deep and experience the reward of giving with me. I'll be sure to catch up with you when I return.                       God Bless xxx

How to donate....Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. Don't forget to opt in for Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer. JustGiving will make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation. It does not cost you anything, instead I earn more for this great cause from the government. So it’s the most efficient way to donate, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

About the charity

We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.
