Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Im running the Great North Run to raise money for Bradford Cancer Support.
Earlier this year my sister Vicky was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This came as an incredible shock to the family and was easily the toughest time any of us have ever been through.
For the first few weeks we were unsure what the facts were as more and more tests were carried out. Vic had the lump removed shortly after the diagnosis, but it took a few more weeks and operations before they were completely satisfied it had all been removed.
Vic then started chemotherapy, which is in 6 stages, each stage lasting 3 weeks. She's on her 3rd stage at the minute. At the end of the chemo she will move onto radiotherapy treatment, everyday, for one month. Were all hoping it will be complete by the new year, so that she can move forward into a happy and free life.
It is hard to explain to anyone how this affects your family and how you are all feeling at the time. I know my body was numb for at least 2 months in the beginning. Most of our strength has come from Vic herself. She is unbelievably strong and positive and has been an inspiration to anyone who has seen her recently. Also the people around us have been an invaluable strength.
Everyday, people are newly diagnosed with Cancer or hear about someone close to them who has it. Yet it is hard to truly understand what that means and the effects it has on the people closest to them.
A group of people that do understand all these emotions are Bradford Cancer Support. An independent charity that look after and treat cancer patients like my sister. They supply therapies, advice, councelling and wigs for when your hair falls out. They are an amazing group of people who need all the support they can get, to continue doing this work.
So its time to get the runners on and raise as much money as we possibly can, so that these people can continue their great work. I did the run last year but this time it means so much more. Please donate what ever you can afford, even a pound would help me to reach my £500 target.
