Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am Climbing Kilimanjaro in August 2009 to raise funds for breast cancer services at St. Margaret's Hospital, Epping and Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, Harlow. There are now 30 supporters doing this trip along with me all trying our best to raise money for the charity – so if you can please follow the link and sponsor me, it will mean so much.

My family’s life has been touched by cancer through the loss of my mother in law Linda Dosad in April 1993 when she was 44 years old. The impact of losing someone so important makes you realise how precious life is and how through losing them it is altered in so many ways. For many years we have donated to Breast Cancer Research and with my daughters have ran in the race for life but it wasn’t until three years ago that I heard of the charity. I subsequently met Amanda who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer over 5 years ago, and Ashraf who successfully treated her, and since then have become directly involved in fundraising myself.

Before long I found myself becoming more involved in supporting the charity mainly through the fundraising balls and meeting the rest of the gang. I couldn’t make the challenge last year for several reasons but promised myself that this year was going to be the year! That said, I am sure that I must have been press ganged into Kilimanjaro, as the toughest physical challenge, for those of you who don’t know me, has been battling Bluewater in the sales; but since the shock of signing up has passed and reality has dawned, this challenge has become more important to me than I could ever have expected.

Fundraising for the charity and supporting Ash in the remarkable work that he does for breast cancer research is an enormously worthwhile cause and one that is so dear to my heart but also being part of such a fabulous team and working with them to do it is quite simply… great. I know that this is going to be a tough call for most of us but together we will share some difficult and some wonderful experiences but most importantly I know that together we can make it!

About the charity

We support patients, our people and visitors at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, St. Margaret’s Hospital and Herts and Essex Hospital. We provide support that is beyond the scope of the NHS, for example purchasing special equipment, improving facilities and investing in vital research.
