Justin's Challenge 2015 Hero Ride Edinburgh
to Windsor
Veteran Justin Henderson, 40, from York loved his job as
a Royal Logistics Corps postal courier and was devastated when a freak accident
while stationed in Germany left him with a broken back and limited mobility.
But Justin didn't let that stop him! His fractured L5 vertebra has been replaced with a prosthetic
vertebra, and he now works as a part time
receptionist at the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Phoenix House.
Last November, on his new recumbent bike, he took part in a Help for Heroes ride that involved cycling 34 to 50 miles per day, point to point and circular routes, with wreath-laying ceremonies conducted at war memorials along the route.
“I often cycle to work, but that isn’t far. The most I have ever done to date is 50 miles so 290 is quite a jump! At the time of my injury, I never thought I’d be on a bike today, never mind taking part in such a massive cycling challenge!"
