Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Yes, I'm running again and asking for more sponsor money but, as always, it's for a very good cause. In fact this year has become the most important ever.

Those of you who have followed my running record know I started just to try and get fit. It's such an easy cheap way to exercise. I started not being able to run round the corner !! After completing Race for Life 5k in 2007 I set the target to run all the way round again in 2009 - just over 6 months after Isla was born. Somehow the emotion and excitement got the better of me and immediately after that I signed up to Run 10k (again for Cancer Research) on October 4th at Ickworth Park. I blame my team mates who ran with me - but they blame me !!

During my 10k training a friends baby was born with a genetic condition which was terminal and I wanted to find a way of doing something to 'help'. That was when I had the mad idea of training for a half marathon to feel I was helping for Jane and her baby son. Leo was born on 5th May 2009 with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) an inherited neuromuscular disease that affects nerve cells. . The condition causes muscles to waste away. It is a relatively rare condition but 1 in 40 of us carry the genetic mutation that causes SMA.

The Jennifer Trust is a national charity dedicated to supporting people affected by SMA, and investing in essential research into causes, treatment and eventually a cure for the disease.

Leo sadly died on my birthday 27th September 2009. His family received a lot of support from this charity by means of resources such as fibre optic lights, mobiles and lamps (he was unable to move his arms, legs or head).

The Norwich Half Marathon takes place on 29th November 2009 and I hope to run all the way and raise lots of money for this worthwhile cause.
