"Many of you will know my inspiration for embarking on this intrepid adventure up Mount Kilimanjaro; however, for those of you who don't, here's why:"

"I am very lucky to be part of a close knit group of friends whom have been together since primary school. Now at 32 years of age, this is some achievement.  One of the couples in this group got married in August 2009, having been booked and prepared for for over 2 years. This day was to be a very special day for a very perfect couple: Neil and Sam"

"8 weeks before the big day, and after a very short spell of illness, everybody's lives changed when Sam was diagnosed with an agressive form of Cancer and underwent immediate treatment.  We were told early on that the Cancer was not curable, but there was a good chance it could be contained."

"Sam was strong and the big day arrived.  It lived up to all of her dreams and a great day was had by all."

"Sadly, four weeks after the wedding, Sam lost her fight and passed away.  The shock was indescribable and hit everybody hard, obviously none harder than Sam's family and new husband"

"Since that day, the close group have been inspired and motivated to raise funds in Sam's memory, hence my ambitious quest to conquer one the world's highest mountains.  The Kilimanjaro climb will be the climax of a fundraising year which will also include a charity football tournament at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium, running the Middlesbrough 10k & Great North Run, and organising a Sportsmans Dinner.

For the climb itself, I decided to join a pre organised trek for The Daisy Chain Project, a local charity for children and families affected by Autism.  I have promised to raise a minimum of £3500 for them to take part.  Any amount raised over and above this target will be donated to Cancer Research UK.

"Sams favourite colour was very dark pink, the colour of her bridesmaids'dresses, hence the colour of text."

"Please support where you can, as every donation - no matter how small - will be greatly appreciated by the respective charities and even more so by the family and friends of Sam."

A very big Thank You to the Evening Gazette for running their piece on our planned fundraising. It is greatly appreciated.

15th May 2010

Active Financial Services FC & Vantis FC raised over £750 for Daisy Chain and £500 for Cancer Research by taking part in a football tournament at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium.  Unfortunately we did not win, however, we were a respectable second, only missing out on the 'goals scored' rule.  Better luck next year Gentlemen.  Thank you once again for your invaluable contribution.

On the above date, I held a Sportsmans Dinner with Kevin Ball at Teesside Golf Club.  I am so proud to say that a total of £2091 was raised. Thank You all.
