We’ve read a few books recently about India - White Tiger and Shantaram - and they have ignited us in a fascination with the country and the people. India has such a strong identity and character.
The chance to meet the people you are helping is something invaluable. We read on the NABS blog that the work done in one week would cost a tenth of their already meagre wages and I think that to be able to help in that way is remarkable.
Apart from the chance to be able to help, I think it’s a great chance to see the ‘Real India’ rather than stay in the Hilton and drive past slums while you enjoy a 2 week holiday and ignore what is really happening around you.
So, we are collecting money for The Global Village Project. This is a charity funded project with the sole aim of tackling poverty housing on a global scale.
For the second year running Nabs has joined forces with Habitat for Humanity and will be sending a team of people from across the communications industry to Bangalore in January 2010. Here they will work closely with families in the local community who are in need of safe, decent housing. We are just 2 people from Lowe London who will be part of that team and we will physically help build new, permanent homes.
In order for this project to be a success we are aiming to raise £5500.
Any money raised will then be split equally between the two organisations as well as cover any direct costs. Habitat will use their half to continue to work towards their goal of eliminating poverty housing in the developing world while NABS will continue to support people from the communications industry across the UK.
Any donation, no matter how small, will go a long way. So please part with your pennies.
Thank you
Kat & Lucy
