Story
Thanks for visiting my just giving page.
I would like to say a big Thanks to my brother in law Mark Hudson who help raise money by completing a full rowing marathon.
Whilst genuinely putting something back into a struggling community, we will be working on community and conservation projects in and around Nomadic Berber communities in the Desert. Plus, money raised for this event will go towards supporting Carphone Warehouse partner charities Get Connected and TreeHouse.
Erg Chebbi
After an orientation we will go on a camel trek into the dunes. We will sleep overnight in a traditional Berber tent (or simply under the stars!)
Erg Chebbi / Black Hamada
We hike out to the furthest point in the dunes into the black Hamada. The Hamada is the open expanse of flat desert that is potted with black volcanic rock. We will have lunch with one of the Nomad family’s in the area, then travel by Landrover across the desert to the Nomadic village of Oumlhadje, where we will set up camp.
Oumlhadje
This timeframe is the Project Phase. Having set our camp up, and after the important project briefings, we will start the project work to build a bridge, initially were were going to build a community centre and fresh water well.
The Charities
Get Connected provides young people in distressing situations with the emotional support and information they need to decide what they want to happen next, whether they need a listening ear or a bed for the night. Our dedicated helpline volunteers talk through any problems, and can connect callers with a free call to any other useful service.
TreeHouse is the national charity for autism education, which aims to improve the lives of children with autism across the UK. Autism is a serious, life-long, neurological condition affecting one in 100 children. At its most profound, children with autism may never acquire spoken language, require constant 24-hour care and may be perceived to be living in a world of their own. Their life, and those of others who care for them, can be extremely stressful and families can be driven to desperation.
