Story
Well, we did it! We set off on the morning of 14th October and cycled for 38 miles through the relatively flat (if rather rainy) Cheshire countryside, to arrive in Chester on the first evening. Thank goodness for all that wet gear – and so stylish too!
Day two and the hard work begins. We crossed into Wales to face some really long, really steep climbs. As we reach the brow of each hill - only to find another climb looming over the horizon - Katyann can be heard emitting small groans (of what I took to be excitement?), before climbing out of the saddle, standing on her pedals and powering to the top. Those months of training were really beginning to pay off. 42 tough miles and we reached our B&B, having got slightly lost in the dark and feeling somewhat tired and cold.
Day three dawned bright and clear, but cold and with a strong headwind - to add to the challenge of some monster climbs and the happy prospect of 45 more miles ahead of us! The scenery around Bala was stunning and, after a hard morning, we began to descend towards the North Wales coast.
After lunch, we were on the homeward stretch – the final 20 miles - and Katyann began to pedal faster and faster, with excited cries of "We're going to do it Daddy!" Driven on by the prospect of the awaiting steak and chips, hot bath and comfy chair, we accelerated through Criccieth, Pwllheli and on to Abersoch, to be greeted by friends and family. A fantastic adventure, a real sense of achievement and a proud father!
At the time of writing, we've nearly reached our target. Thank you so much for your support. We have received sponsorship from more than 300 people and your generosity has been inspiring. We are going to visit Stephanie at Treloar's in a couple of weeks' time and I know that everyone connected with Treloar's has been amazed by the generosity of so many people and is truly appreciative of the support.
Thanks, once again, for your kindness, generosity and support.
