Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am running 2 marathons in April: Paris and London. I ran Paris on Sunday 5 April in 4.05.01 by my watch or 4.11.15 by French time-keeping; I know which I believe! Both are in aid of the RNLI - the independent charity dedicated to saving lives at sea. Why the RNLI? Well I am a volunteer Lifeboatman on the River Thames.
I am part of the crew on Tower Lifeboat Station - by Waterloo Bridge - which is the busiest Lifeboat Station in the RNLI: 405 callouts last year, and 99 people rescued. The patch covers from Woolwich Arsenal to Battersea Railway Bridge, and because the Station is so busy it is permantly manned with a mix of full-time and volunteer crew workign 12-hour shifts. I have been a volunteer for 18 months now, and need no convincing that the Lifeboat service comprises seriously dedicated and selfless people committed to saving life.
Obviously in a recession charities face financial challenge, and the RNLI is no exception - yet it is a service which absolutely must continue to operate at full capacity. The City of London Committee of the RNLI is about to launch a fund-raising campaign to help cover the costs of the lifeboats on the Thames, includingTower Lifeboat. My Marathons will, in effect, kick-start that campaign.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now for the Paris and London Marathons!
Finally, given that I have obviously lost the plot this year, and will be running 2 marathons in 3 weeks some of you may wish to link the 2 donation-wise on this site..
Best Regards
Keith
