We are the UK’s eating disorder charity to end pain and suffering

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As some of you are aware my daughter, Laura (aged 21), has been very seriously ill with anorexia nervosa over the last 4 years or so.

She spent some 6 months in hospital last year, in a specialist eating disorder unit, and is now making slow but steady progress towards recovery from this most deadly of all mental illnesses.

It is the mental illness with the highest mortality rate – 33% of sufferers do not survive, another 33% struggle all their lives, and the remaining 33% make a good recovery and lead a fairly normal life.

It is very much NOT the “slimmers disease” but is very often the tragic outcome of the way some people cope with severe trauma.

The illness is massively misunderstood, not only in the general public, but also, sadly, within the medical profession.

Our family struggled for a long, long time to find proper and professional treatment for Laura, but were lucky enough to eventually find some marvellous medical help, which is ongoing.

I decided to try to help others in a similar position and, along with another 11 GGC stalwarts (listed on this page), who have  extremely kindly agreed to join me in fundraising for b-eat, am aiming to play 110 holes over the 3 Gullane Golf Club courses on June 25 to raise money  for the Eating Disorder charity - “ b-eat “ .

You can find out about b-eat on their website :  www.b-eat.co.uk

b-eat works very, very hard to raise awareness of eating disorders and to improve treatment and healthcare services for sufferers and their families.

NHS facilities to treat eating disorders are unfortunately so scarce that only the very worst sufferers can be accommodated. This is so wrong because the illness can be caught and dealt with early, very effectively, were the facilities to be available.

I would therefore hugely appreciate your support in sponsoring our fundraising effort – having done it once before I know very well that it is not a push over !.

The easiest way to do this is to use this “Just Giving “ page, which allows you to easily contribute and allows us to see who has been kind enough to support us.

Thank you massively in anticipation of your generous support.

One member of Gullane Golf Club has already donated the fantastic sum of £1000 (offline) to kick start the fundraising - thanks so much to him.
