On the 14th October 2014, Maryam and I heard the shocking news that, a close friends daughter, Kelly Evans had had a terrible accident whilst working at the local stables. Kelly was severely injured when a horse kicked her in the head whilst she was bringing it in from one of the fields.  Kelly was treated at Southampton General Hospital on the Wessex Neuro Intensive Care Unit where she was induced into a coma for an agonising 22 days. At times the outcome looked bleak at best, but eventually, Kelly's brain swelling reduced and she was taken out of the coma. Kelly demonstrated immeasurable determination and courage during 6 months of rehabilitation, she has now not only returned to riding, but is competing at the high standard she did prior to her accident.

Before the accident Kelly was taking part in a Level 3 NVQ in equestrian management, since the accident she has been able to continue her studies, complete the course AND win Apprentice of the year! Well done Kel!

Maryam and I have been inspired by Kelly's strength and the invaluable support provided to Kelly and her family by Southampton Hospital. We are taking on a huge challenge by cycling from London the Brighton on September 6th 2015. We aim to complete the 54 mile cycle in 5-6 hours, prior to this event neither of us had cycled more than 8 miles!
