2 years in the thinking - 2 months in the planning - 6 months training
For those who know me, cycling has always been a big passion of mine. It started with mountain biking and then went to a new level with extreme off-roading, the red route of Dalby forest with friends has seen many injuries but has always been outweighed by the laughs and sense of achievement we all felt afterwards. I only got into road riding 18 months ago after I purchased my first road bike.
A friend first and colleague second Peter Miles has given me the opportunity to ride with him on the epic John O'Groats to Lands End ride with him. When I first signed up I don’t think I truly realised what I was doing. It was a moment of madness
J Regardless the training is coming along nicely, although I know this will probably be the hardest challenge of my life, both physically and mentally.
The Land's End to John O'Groats ride will take place in later this year between the 9
th and 26th of September, overall mileage is yet to be confirmed but will be circa 1,000 climbing over 40,000ft!
The ride is unsupported, there will not be van load of supporters following me helping out when needed. Everything I need I will have to carry myself. Accommodation will be with friends and relatives along the way with some B&Bs.
I have chosen to make this ride as much about personal achievement as supporting my designated charity, this being Cancer Support. My mother has suffered with cancer for several years now and the charity has provided a great deal of support to my mother and the rest of the family and I’d like to give something back. Please support me by donating as generously as you can.
My ride is self funded so all that you donate will go Cancer Support (less JustGiving's small fee)
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Cancer Support and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
