South Pole Unsupported Expedition 2009

After losing my younger sister to leukaemia I wanted to do something to help others who suffered from the disease. In 2006 by walking unsupported to the North Pole generously sponsored by a lot of people I was able to raise almost £100,000 to fund the construction of a new ward at the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre (see photos on www.southpole2009.com).    

Now, with my son Matt (see www.justgiving.com/mattgaskell) I have walked unsupported to the geographical South Pole. We pulled 80kg sledges in average temperatures of  minus 40C -our coldest day was minus 47C - and whilst the winds were quite kind to us the effective elevation of 12,000 feet was a real challenge. We are one of the very few father / son teams to have attempted this route and at 18 Matt has become one of the the youngest people ever to complete it.

Every penny raised will go to funding critical leukaemia research and so please help us by contributing what you can afford to give.
