We protect endangered mammals in the wild to build a better future for everyone

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Our team for the demanding challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro (5895m) has an incredible element added, which will have us  staying overnight in the crater at over 5700m. We  comprise of 4 British Airways staff, Rod Young, Dave Anderson, Dean Plumb, Paul Steptoe and 6 friends, Mark Woods, Mick Robbings, Jean Marc Olivier, Jerry Ranger, Robert Hegt and Robert Rogers. We will stay overnight in the crater where temperatures as low as -25C may be encountered and that is before wind chill is considered!

We would like to raise funds for three charities - this page is for the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF).

Our fund raising for Flying Start, set up by British Airways to support Comic Relief may be found at:

Our fund raising for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) may be found at:

Our priorities are 50% DSWF, 40% Flying Start and 10% JDRF, but your decision and preference determines where the money goes.

The future of some of our most iconic wildlife species are in grave danger of becoming extinct. The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) desperately needs your help to save the tiger, rhino, elephant and other critically endangered mammals in their wild habitat. DSWF targets resources to specific wildlife projects, where it matters. The impact this has on local conservation issues and the support it receives from local communities is dramatic. But they need to do more and they need your help today - tomorrow could be too late!

I [Rod] first got hooked when I heard of an orphan called Rupunza, who was rescued after poachers killed the rest of his herd while crossing a river. His life and future will now be safe so that our children's children can enjoy wild elephants in Africa.

So we very much appreciate your support and hope you dig deep for the three charities. This will be hard work for us although very personally rewarding. We want our efforts to make a difference to our endangered wildlife and save it for the future [DSWF], to give children a fair start in life in the poorest communities in the world [Flying Start] and to help improve the lives of young children with diabetes [JDRF].
