Friends,
Over a few pints in a lesser
known Kilmaurs pub, we discussed the idea of seeing more of our beautiful Scottish
countryside; walking the jagged volcanic ridgelines and conquering the towering
terrains of the Munros.
There was also a suggestion
of reducing our ever increasing waistlines.
And what better excuse to do it, than for a worthy charity?
Our task:
On
February 21st
2010, the Tartan Army has
organised a 26 mile walk from Hampden Park,
through the City of Glasgow before making its way to the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond.
(UPDATE - Due to safety reasons the Hampden walk has been
moved back to April (same day as the Ben Nevis walk) Therefore we have
decided to organise our own 26 mile walk on Arran (why not!) on Friday 26th March.)
For those of a stronger disposition,
on the
17th of April 2010,
there is the ascent of 8,200ft from Altnafeadh (Glencoe) to the summit of Ben Nevis. (3,800ft on West Highland Way plus 4,400ft
up Ben Nevis). A 16 hour hike taking in one of the most breathtaking mountain range on the planet.
We will do both! Why? Well apart from the obvious
beauty of the walks, it is what we will raise for the Tartan Army Children’s
Charity, raising money for disadvantaged children both in Scotland and around the world.
Nearer the day we will be setting up twitter & facebook pages so you can keep track of our progress (if you like!)
Please sponsor us and help
this worthwhile charity.
Cheers,
Chris & Colin
