Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After losing almost half my body weight ( 33kgs!) in 10 months and running a half marathon in under 2 hours, I needed to find another challenge for my motivation and determination. The next logical step after a half marathon is of course a full marathon, 42 km. That’s about 4 hours continuous running for a first timer like me! As if training & then running for 4 hours wasn’t enough, I’ve also set myself the goal raising £1000 for charity. The charity I’ve chosen to raise money for is The Mayhew Animal Home. The Mayhew is an animal rescue centre based in Kensel Green, and they have been rescuing and re-homing abandoned animals since 1886. Last year I paid a visit to The Mayhew to see for myself what their centre was like – I was overwhelmed by the facilities and the level of care given to the animals. All were housed in large heated cubicles, complete with a TV!The Mayhew keep all animals until they are re-homed, no matter how long it takes. In fact, they have about 15 “garden cats” who are permanent residents rescued from a cat hoarder. The garden cats even have their own heated cat lounge, where they can come & go as they please.
I was particularly touched by the animals who’s elderly owners had passed away and had no one to care for them, how upsetting for a pet to be cared for by a devoted owner for 10 years, then to find themselves alone. Luckily, The Mayhew has plenty of volunteers to take these pets for walks and spoil them with cuddles.
Clearly, animals can’t speak for themselves and cannot take action to improve their lives without the help of charities like The Mayhew, so please remember pets you’ve had or have and how much joy they brought to your life. By helping me to raise £1000 for The Mayhew, your donation will be helping a lost animal to find a loving home like yours. I’m running the Edinburgh Marathon on May 23rd and your support and donations, will be greatly appreciated! Thanks from me and the puppies & kittens at The MayhewPS: My work, Network Rail, do matched giving to Cancer Research UK, so your donation will go to not one but 2 worthy charities – double Karma points!
