We give life saving milk support directly to vunerable babies in Tanzania

Story

Hi Everyone! I’m in Mwanza for 10 weeks volunteering at Forever Angels Baby Home. My birthday is approaching and my only wish is to raise money for this incredible organization that cares for orphaned and abandoned children.

I want to emphasize that this truly is an ETHICAL non-profit. White Savior Complex is real and some people treat African orphanages like a tourist attraction. There are many organizations doing more harm than good, with volunteers unknowingly/ignorantly feeding into a damaging cycle that disempowers the communities they are trying to help.

FABH is remarkably different. 80% of the children are either reunited with family/placed with extended family or adopted into a new home. Their outreach program Maisha Matters  provides formula milk and training for families, and helps them to start their own businesses so that they themselves can provide for their children (keeping kids out of orphanages in the first place).

Seeing this work firsthand, I can promise you that your support will make a difference in this community and in the lives of these resilient, beautiful children.

So if you’d like to contribute to an ethical organization that is doing meaningful, life-saving work in Africa, here is your opportunity! And PLEASE do not be discouraged from donating because you feel your donation isn’t big enough. If you can donate $5 (your morning coffee) that is deeply appreciated. Every dollar counts. THANK YOU!!

From Forever Angels:

We believe in Family.

There are thousands of orphaned and abandoned children in Africa for a whole multitude of reasons, but most link directly to poverty. In Tanzania, 20 women die every single day in childbirth. This leaves 20 babies every day at risk of undernourishment or death.

Formula milk is so expensive that traditionally, extended family members would be forced to place these babies in orphanages, and very often, they would not be encouraged or supported to return for them. Our model is trying to change this.

We do everything in our power to keep families together and to support and empower families to raise their own children. Our Maisha Matters model has enabled over 500 babies to receive life saving nutrition, whilst remaining at home with their relatives. This is 500 babies who never needed to enter an orphanage!

Forever Angels is an INTERIM care home for infants, babies, and young toddlers in Mwanza, Tanzania who have no known relatives or whose relatives are not able to care for them. We provide nutritious food and a stable start to life in a safe and loving environment while working towards reintegrating children with family members or hoping for an adoptive family for those who are abandoned.
