The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Thankyou very much for taking time to view our fundraising page once again.

Sue is blind and is about to take on the biggest challenge of her life to date and it's my job to help her achieve her goal (and mine for that matter!). On the 13th April 2008, we are putting ourselves to the extreme test by running the London Marathon.

Sue is a member of the Village Road Runners Club and has battled with her sight for many years but unfortunately she lost her sight back in February 2007. Since then she has continued her running with the help of her fellow runners and competed in various runs/races throughout the year. She then entered her biggest challenge to date, The Great North Run, a Half Marathon which was the first race we ran together. With a joint effort, we finished in under 2 hours, having knocked off more than 20 minutes from the previous year when she ran alone partially sighted. Now the goalposts have been moved and after a bit of persuasion, she is ready to take on The London Marathon!

As for me, many people know that i have been raising money for Guide Dogs for many years now, inspired by my good friend of many years, Dave Heeley. Blind Dave, (as he likes to be known), was responsible for persuading me to run the London Marathon once more as his very own biggest challenge of a lifetime comes to a climax with the London Marathon itself! Blind Dave, along with his guide Malcolm Carr and the Guide Dogs Team, is running 7 marathons in 7 continents in 7 days which has never been done by a disabled person before. This is where myself and Sue are planning to help Blind Dave by running him home on his last leg of his challenge, hence the name of our challenge.........Last 1 in 7.
