Welcome to our JustGiving fundraising page. We are running the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on Monday, 7 June 2010 in memory of our wonderful grandfather, Tommy Mulroy. On 27 March this year, Grandad died of Lewy Body disease, also known as dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). This illness is the second most frequent cause of age-related dementia, but is little known and most people are unaware that it exists. At present there is no cure for DLB, and major research is needed to develop medication and treatments specifically tailored for this condition.

We are running in aid of The Lewy Body Society, which funds essential research and promotes awareness of Lewy Body disease. The Society is the only charity in Europe specifically concerned with DLB, and it is committed to educating both the general public and the medical profession about this disease while supporting the latest research into causes of and treatments for DLB. We hope that the money we raise will help to find the best possible treatment for people with this terrible illness.
