Story
Dear Supporter
Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page. I have taken on the Trek challenge to the summit of Mnt. Kilimanjaro in 2008 in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. My fundraising target for the cause is £3450 by June 2008.
My family has been touched twice by cancer, losing my grandmother Marian Wilkinson and another close relative Ted Tabbron. These were great people of great influence in my life. My grandmother, ever loving and caring with her enormous sense of empathy and thirst for learning taught me the value of education and tolerance. And Ted, a tower of a man whose humanity and gentleness never faltered for a second in his life despite having suffered for four years in a Nazi prison of war, was a shining example to all who new him of forgiveness and hope. Losing them were stark moments of realisation in my life, reminders of how mortal we all are and how, at some time, we all need the help of others.
Unfortunately neither grandma or Ted were able to have the dignity of dying in their own home, but by raising this money for Marie Curie I sincerely hope someone else will be able to say goodbye to their loved one in the peace of their familiar surroundings, and help make their last moments together as comfortable and memorable as possible. If I manage to reach the target, climbing Mnt. Kilimanjaro will be a huge privilege and a gesture to Grandma and Ted in their memory.
Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
I can’t thank you enough for your support.
Best wishes,
Laurence Wilkinson
