I'm running to raise money for
Water For Africa, a UK based non-profit organisation that specialises in assisting other Donors, N.G.O's, Charities and individuals to provide clean and reliable water points within Africa.
Water for Africa has its own in-country drillers, state of art drilling equipment and all consumables.
They have worked in The Gambia, West Africa to provide life-preserving water to over 80 communities.
Water For Africa believes that providing boreholes are the fastest, most efficient and safest way to provide water to rural communities, they are not prone to spread disease and a hazard to children and livestock.
The borehole can not only provide water for health but can provide the village with a constant supply of water for irrigation to grow crops all year around, instead of relying on rainfall as a means to grow food for themselves and to sell.
The Figures:
£3,500 buys a borehole with a hand pump to provide water for a whole village community
£5,000 is enough to erect a solar equipped borehole for agriculture and irrigation
Their water projects have included:
Hospitals
Health centres
Schools
Village gardens and farms
Rural and urban communities
They have also worked to provide boreholes to a number of organisations and NGO’s, including: The World Bank, African Development Bank, Action Aid, United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation, NASFA a Food Security Organisation based in The Gambia, Rotary International and The Medical Research Council (MRC)
