Fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis Trust
Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. 
I have decided to trek across iceland for this chosen charity to do some thing which means a lot to me. My son Thomas was diagnosed with cf and needed a bowel operation at birth, he is on daily medication and will be for life, we hope one day that a cure will be found, but without funding it will be impossible so please dig deep and help a worthy cause.
Cystic Fibrosis is caused by a defective gene that clogs the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system. A person with CF must endure a rigorous daily routine of treatments just to stay healthy. This can include hours of physiotherapy to clear lungs of mucus, inhaled and injected drugs to fight infections and taking dozens of enzyme pills to help digest food.
The CF Trust has invested around £15 million into gene therapy research and leading scientists believe will be able to add a healthy copy of the faulty CF gene to the lungs, which would stop the lung damage that claims 90% of those with Cystic Fibrosis.
Scientists have developed a product and are carrying out further tests but the cystic Fibrosis Trust need £3 million each year to fund this work and the clinical trial will cost around £4.7 million.
This is the first time anywhere in the world that gene therapy for CF has reached this stage.
At present there is no cure for this disease and 3 children die from the effects if Cystic Fibrosis each week in this country.
