Story

This is the first time either of us have ever asked for a charity penny.  We figured if we were going to break our charity virginity and ask for your money we needed to do something nigh on impossible.

We believe we’ve found that near impossible thing. In September 2010 Tim Slee and Leigh Gatland are going to run 78 miles around The Grand Canyon in under 24 hours. That’s 3 marathons all joined together. In the heat.  Round the Grand Canyon.

We have entered one of the toughest running races on this planet, and neither of us have ever even run a marathon. Yes, we must be mental, but if we want you to part with your hard earned cash then we damn sure need to sweat and bleed for it. The Grand Canyon gets hot, it is big, there will be wind, ridiculous heat, sand storms, tigers, bears, small pygmy type people who throw spears at runners and then roast their limbs over fires in their caves and feed their children our GPS watches. Probably. I don’t even know how to use a GPS watch, I can’t even read maps. The last run of any length I did was a half marathon, and I tried to follow my Dads advice, pick a nice bum and run behind it and let it pull you round. I tried this but after 5 miles the bloke got pissed off and told me to let go. I walked most of the rest of it.

Do not doubt us however, we WILL do this. This is for a charity that is very close to our hearts, it’s for the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust, which supports and funds research into the same type of cancer that my Dad died of. This is more than this one event: if you can help us get there and achieve what we want to achieve, then this is the first step in changing our lives and putting us on the righteous path of charity giving. We don’t want this to be a one off, we want this to be the first of many, many things we will do to raise money for charities, and over the next 12 months we want to set up our own charity. However, we need to nail down this first one first – and you can help us get there.

We want to make a difference, and we need your help: help us to do good things. If you are only going to give once this year, then give to this. We promise you, we won’t let you down.

Tim
