Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We have received a further donation of £100 which brings the total to £28440.

The fantastic amount of £14170 raised by the team has been matched by The Rugby Group Benevolent Fund and yesterday, 30th September, Maggie, Phil and Graeme presented a cheque for the total of £28340 to Dogs for the Disabled at Banbury.  Many many thanks to all our supporters, sponsors and friends who have helped make such an incredible difference to the wonderful work undertaken by the Charity to transform the lives of so many people.

Starting on 5th June we completed the epic journey from Land's End to John O'Groats on a restored 1963 Massey Ferguson 35x Multipower tractor and handbuilt trailer accompanied by a number of cyclists.

We arrived at a windswept John O'Groats in the afternoon of Wednesday 18th June after a tiring but successful adventure having met some wonderful people en route and collecting from generous supporters.

Rob Stretton who completed the entire 950 miles on his bike was joined by others who cycled with him at various stages throughout the 12 days.  Mike Dorrington cycled most of Scotland from the Falkirk Wheel to the end.

The tractor and trailer performed amazingly - the only problem being a leaky radiator which we had to replace at Kendal.  Many thanks for the team at Electricity North West who helped and let us use their workshop facilities.   All credit to Steve Moore who restored and drove the tractor all the way.

In Stockton Heath, Warrington and Preston we met up with Puppy Socialisers and their young pups in training which was a great boost for the team and the supporters.  Reports in the media, including the Warrington Guardian helped to generate interest and awareness.

See below for the story as it unfolded before we set off from Land's End:

There is a slight change to the start time.....as the first campsite is a few miles inland from Land's End, the team aim to set up camp Friday evening then head over to Land's End so the first 5 miles will be from about 7 pm on Friday 5th June.

You can now track the Convoy on your smartphone or tablet.  Please email graeme.fuller@btinternet.com and we will forward you the info.

As well as seeking sponsorship we have organised a number of fundraising events:

Last Saturday, 30th May the tractor and trailer was on display in Tesco's car park where a collection for Dogs for the Disabled raised £238

On Sunday 24th May we had Music Fest - a musical BBQ  at The George, Tiffield, near Towcester. We started at 12 noon and continued through until the evening with a variety of local artistes performing. They all played and sang for free in aid of Dogs for the Disabled. The tractor and trailer were on display for all to see and many guests completed the sponsor form.  We also had more of Sue's delicious cakes, Liz's stunning prints of the tractor and trailer, two fantastic raffles organised by Ade and Merylin which included generous prizes donated by Jewsons, Richard's plants and bric a brac, souvenirs from Dogs for the Disabled with a barbecue provided by Russell and Jane from The George.  Thanks are due to all who came and supported us and our hosts, Russell and Jane.  We made a brilliant £1214 plus £753 in sponsorship.

Sunday 17th May saw us back by popular request at the Anglers Retreat at Marsworth near Tring for another music event.  The entertainment was brilliant and we collected £229.73.

Sue raised an amazing £80 selling her scrumptious cakes at Dave's Accoustic Night at The George, Tiffield on Wednesday 29th April.  well done and thanks.

On Saturday 24th April we held a quiz evening at The George, Tiffield. The event was very well attended and we raised over £240.  Thanks to Colin the quizmaster, Russell and Jane our hosts, Merylin and Ade who organised the raffle, and all who supported us.

Also on Saturday 24th the tractor and trailer was on display at the Towcestrians Rugby Club.  Richard organised a successful collection which raised nearly £300 thanks to the generosity of everyone there.

On Sunday 19th April the Tractor and Trailer and bikes were out and about for a trial run of 50 miles.  They left Fosters Booth at 11 am and stopped halfway at The Cock at Roade for refreshment, some music and a very successful collection. Thanks to all who supported us.
