Story

Hi guys,

This is my first fund raising event, for two reasons (excuse the fairly long write up, but my friends know I only excuse my rambling when it's important):

1) I've searched for years to find a cause that fired me up enough to get off my ass and attempt to make a difference, despite how small that difference might be. Maybe I find fund raisers too generic, maybe I've been lazy or maybe I've been too lucky to have been affected by a truly life altering event. That was until I heard about a campaign that Sara, a work colleague (and friend), who’s warmth and generosityI simply do not have the vocabulary to convey to you.

Her son, Lucas requires a life defining operation in the US that must be privately funded in order for him to have the best hopes of being able to walk unaided as he grows older.

Please take a second to read through the Bournemouth Echo's feature story, which communicates the journey that we can all be a part of....

Now onto the less important reason:

2) I've never been a fan of the "I'm parachuting for charity" or the "I'm zorbing for charity" type events. People should sponsor you when it's HARD work. Not when it's a one off, fun experience for you (me) to do - especially if the fund raising PAYS for it. Therefore, I've decided to take part in the Men's Health 'Survival of the Fittest' event, based in London on Sat 16th November, which requires weeks (.....and weeks) of dedicated training.

My fundraising does not in any way pay for my participation – entry fee is 100% covered by me.

You can read details of what’s involved here:

Anyway.....I'm going to need some serious motivation to achieve this goal. Yeah I try to live a healthy lifestyle. Yeah I try to work out......but this.....this, is something else.

Those close to me will know it was my birthday recently (15th Sept). You will have noticed that I made a specific point of making it a low key, not see anyone event. I'm personally asking that any money you would have considered spending on thoughtful, yet realistically 'non essential' presents are put toward something truly relevant.

Be generous. If you can't be generous, just be unselfish - £3...£5....£10....prices you would pay for a magazine, drink or even a meal out. Don't forget GIFT AID!

Thank you in advance.

Muchos Love,

MJ
