We raise money for our hospitals to do great things for patient care

Story

Well it’s been a little over a year since I decided to climb Everest Base Camp for ‘Above and Beyond’ (Bristol based charity) and four years since I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for ‘Marie Curie Cancer Care’, so I thought it was about time I took on another mad adventure and raised money for more people who need it more than me….

So I came up with the idea of doing something pretty epic and combining two trips over 3 months. It took me a while to think of something that kept up with my usual “risky” standards and eventually settled on a HOT AND COLD EXTREME challenge!

Trek the Sahara Desert then trek the Arctic…why not?!

So on 31st October 2014 I will be setting off to the Sahara Desert to begin a two week trek in blistering heat across open plains of sand, walking for 9 hours per day, no shelter, battling the elements and sleeping under the stars with a team of expedition leaders and a few camels! Temperatures will be scorching during the day and freezing at night...

Then on 30th January 2015 I will be heading off to the Arctic Circle for a two week survival expedition through snow and ice where I will have to ‘ice fish’ for my food supplies, build igloos, make shelters, sleep in snow holes and walk for 10 hours a day with an expedition team and a pack of huskies!

I will be paying for both trips, flights and equipment out of my own pocket.

So….I know most of you will be thinking “rather you than me” so…..as I’m taking on these challenges to raise money for an amazing cause, I wondered if you would give the loose change in your pocket as a way of supporting my efforts to help others (from the comfort of your warm/cool homes whilst I battle extreme temperatures!)

The charity I am raising money for is ‘Above and Beyond’, who support Bristol’s hospitals….the Bristol Royal Infirmary helped my brother Josh with his bone marrow transplant and saved his life…he is my inspiration for this expedition.

The hospital are building a teenage cancer ward to make treatment and living in a hospital for months, sometimes years on end, more bearable for young adults living with cancer.

They only have £200,000 left to raise and if I can contribute just a small amount towards that I’ll be happy….with the support of family, friends and the public I hope I can make a difference! I have set myself a target of £1,500….if I can smash this target and raise more I will be the happiest girl in the world!

Please, please share the above JustGiving page link on your Facebook and Twitter accounts and with friends, family and colleagues to help me hit my target (even if you don’t know me!) You could help make such a difference even just by sharing this page!

Thank you all for your support and for helping me to make a difference to young people living with cancer.

Lucie xx
