Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for GBSS (Group B Strep Support )
I am doing a sponsored walk of the Two Bridges in Derry (7miles) in memory of a darling baby.. Grace.
Group B Strep is a common condition that a lot of people dont know about..but affects 700 babies a year. 74 of these babies will die and many more will have serious complications.
Group B Strep is passed on from a mother to her baby ... Some countries routinely screen mothers for this at their 36 weeks check up... and treatment is given to high risk groups.
Northern Ireland currently dont automatically screen for Group B Stress as apparently the number of cases is not deemed high enough.
My Goddaughter Shauna Grimes and her partner Stephen McGroarty had a beautiful baby daughter Grace born on 24th May 2009. She was perfect in every way, when she was 3 and a half weeks old she became very ill and was rushed to Hospital.. she was diagnosed as having Group B Strep the nursing staff did all that they could for Grace, but she was too ill and she became one of Gods Angels on 13th June 2009.
Please dont let this happen to another family. The devastation and the heartache is just too much for anyone to have to go through.
What makes this harder for everyone is the fact that a screening and an antibiotic costing £80 could have prevented the loss of Grace and so many other babies..
Funds raised will help GBSS to raise awareness of this condition.
ANY AMOUNT NO MATTER HOW SMALL WILL BE VERY WELCOME.
Many Thanks
