****STOP PRESS!!  I am just editing my page now to announce that I have done it!!!  My official time for the Bristol Half Marathon on 9th September was 1 hour 59 minutes and 28 seconds ... so I have apparently joined the 'sub 2 club' by the skin of my chinny chin chin!  It was a great day and Dad was there to cheer me on which definitely helped to raise my stamina level, plus we have so far raised £1,450 in aid of Parkinsons Disease Society so may I just say to all who have supported me a BIG FAT THANK YOU!!!*****

I am a virgin to long distance running (she adds hastily) so running in the Bristol Half Marathon in aid of Parkinsons Disease on 9th September is a real challenge for me!

Parkinsons is a horrible disease for which there is no cure.  It is a fluctuating, neurological condition that affects all sufferers differently.  Its symptoms include stiffness, tiredness, depression, balance problems, loss of facial expressions, speech difficulties, slowness of movement, shaking, muscular pain and rigidity.

I didn't know much about Parkinsons until my Dad was diagnosed with it in 1998.  It is very hard to see my gorgeous Dad suffering with this degenerative disease.  Despite his ordeal he remains resolutely good natured and humorous and never complains - his bravery is breathtaking.

I wish I could cure my Dad who has spent his life helping and supporting me throughout mine.  Unfortunately I can't wave a magic wand but perhaps I can contribute in a small way towards helping find a cure for all Parkinsons sufferers in the future.
