Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We ran the Great North Run on the 19th of September for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity which has become extremely important to us since Oli, Luke's brother and Jordan's friend, was diagnosed with cancer last year.
Oli is being treated in the Teenage Cancer Unit at St. James. Leeds. We have seen for ourselves how much difference it can make to someone of our age who is fighting cancer to be treated in a Teenage Cancer unit, instead of a general ward. Everything is geared to the needs of young people between 13 and 24 and being in one of these units where family, and importantly, friends are welcome, helps to make a miserable time bearable. The Teenage Cancer Trust provides state of the art Games Consoles, Televisions, Computers and Personal Laptops for each patient -it isn't at all like a normal hospital ward.
Not only does the TCT provide electrical equipment but they offer a wide range of further activities including arranging days out and film nights. It is almost impossible to comprehend how difficult it must be to be in this situation but from our experience the Teenage Cancer Trust helps not only patients but their family and friends to cope hugely.
The money raised from the Great North Run will go towards a variety of things, such as the provision of units in NHS hospitals, staff, equipment and a range of activities including days out etc...
However, the main aim of Teenage Cancer Trust is to build enough units so that every young person in the country affected by cancer has access to these facilities by 2012. Currently only half of all those suffering are benefiting from the services provided by Teenage Cancer Trust.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has donated.
However, if you would still like to donate, this website is active until the end of January 2011. So any donation, big or small, will gratefully be recieved.
Thank you,
Luke and Jordan
