Lands End to John O' Groats in 10 days (27th May - 7th June 2010) in aid of Help The Hospices. Quite a challenge!
But then so is dealing with terminal illness. I've known several people who have benefitted from hospice care and think that the hospice movement is doing a fantastic job. Most of the funding hospices require does not come from the NHS and has to be raised by charitable giving so I hope my cycling efforts will bring them some much needed support.
The cycle ride is about 1,000 miles in length but it's the hills that worry me: over 25,000 metres vertically up which isn't far off going from sea level to the top of Everest 3 times over! At least I've got a similar amount of downhill to look forward to. It'll be good to know that the effort cycling each mile and climbing each metre is clocking up support for a good cause. I'm cycling with a friend, William Watts, and we have to be self-sufficient, carrying all our own luggage and spares and prepared to do any repairs necessary to keep us moving.
