I am going to be throwing myself out of a plane on the 19th June (hopefully attached to someone who actually knows what they're doing!) in order to raise money for Leeway Women's Aid. As most of you will know I am a Probation Officer and I spend much of my time working with men who commit offences of domestic abuse. According to the statistics, 1 in 4 women will be the victim of domestic abuse in their lifetime. I don't know about you but I find that a really scary statistic, think of four of your female friends, chances are one them has suffered abuse or violence at the hands of a partner. Another frightening statistic is that two women a week are murdered by a partner or ex-partner in the UK.

Leeway Women's Aid (www.leewaysupport.org) is a Norfolk based charity that works with women and children who have been the victims of domestic abuse. It provides advice and support to women who are still in an abusive relationship or have recently left. It is available regardless of where a woman lives or her financial income. It helps women make choices about their situation, how to stay safe and to provide support for them whatever they decide. Leeway's outreach workers meet with the women in safe environments which can be their home or neutral places if the home isn’t safe. They provide advice, emotional and practical support on issues including financial, legal, housing, welfare and safety. In addition to outreach workers Leeway offers a telephone helpline, a drop in centre and emergency accommodation for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.

If you could see fit to donate whatever you can afford to this charity I would be really grateful. I have to raise a minimum of £325. Now, I'll be honest, I've always wanted to do a skydive anyway so I can't profess to be doing this solely out of the goodness of my heart. I will be putting a chunk of the £325 in myself but of course the more money I can raise for the charity the better!
