Story
Hey everyone thanks for visiting my page :)
I’ve finally decided to do it…yes in October 2010 I’m going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro! As many of you may know, I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and I have finally plucked up the courage to do it. I’m going raise money for St Luke’s Hospice and I need to raise a whopping £3400...yes that’s right - THREE THOUSAND, FOUR HUNDRED POUNDS STERLING!!!
So come on guys, dig deep into your pockets and help support me and my charity!
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and stands at a mighty 5896m. Despite what some of you may think, I am no longer that skinny weak girl I once was! Over the past few months I have been training hard and I’m sure come October I'll be a Lean Mean Mountain - Climbing Machine!
So why St. Lukes Hospice? Hospice care is based on the simple idea that a dying patient is a living person, with unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. St Luke's exists to support those needs as well as the needs of their families and carers. My grandfather suffered from lung cancer and passed away 18 years ago. During his final stages, he stayed in a hospice which provided him with the comfort and care he needed during this time. St. Lukes Hospice are a charity for which I have great admiration for; although they cannot add days to the lives of the terminally ill they most definitely add life to their remaining days.
St Lukes provides its services to patients for free, but with annual operating costs at £3.5million, and less than 30% of financial support from local health authorities, they heavily rely on voluntary contributions. Charities like this need our support. With the recession, less people have been donating and they really need our help. So many people are affected by cancer everyday, whether it is first hand, a friend or family member who suffers from it. The more money we can raise for this charity the more people it will help.
You guys can make a huge difference with what you donate and it is going to a fantastic cause. I’m really excited about this challenge, and all your support means so much to me.
Thanks again for visiting my page and please please be generous and donate now!! (not later…!)
