Our UK seas are home to a huge variety of wildlife, yet....
Less than 0.002% of our UK coastal seas are fully protected from damaging activities...
.....to put that into context it's a tiny area the size of Kensington Gardens in London!
We'd really like to ask for your support to continue our campaign for better protection of marine wildlife. The fund raised through this webpage are vitally important to ensuring our voice is heard and the Government include appropriate measures to create vital Marine Reserves in the upcoming Marine Bill.
The Facts:
Scientists recommend that 20-40% of our seas should be fully protected to ensure their survival.
Over 60% of UK fisheries are unsustainable, and delicate long-lived species continue to be damaged by destructive fishing techniques.
Case studies abroad have shown that Marine Reserves can benefit divers, anglers, fishermen and biodiversity alike. New Zealand have 32 Marine Reserves, and 33% of the Great Barrier Reef is highly protected - many reserves have resulted in increased fish and shellfish populations, whilst marine habitats are protected from destruction
So, its a win:win situation! Please help us to ensure our voice is heard and wildlife is given a chance to breathe.
