Every year in the UK thousands of people take part in what has become known as the Three Peak Challenge - climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within a 24 hour period. Many of these walkers embark upon this adventure not only with the aim of strenuous exertion but also to raise funds for worthy causes. Members of St. John's Church have got excited about taking part in this 3 Peak challenge in the summer of 2006 to raise funds for our new community hall. Over the last 3 years we have raised £250,000, most of which has been pledged by members of the church. We are aiming to raise a further £100,000 this year towards our target, and we hope that the 3 Peaks Challenge would be a big chunk of this. We have several teams of walkers already planning their challenges - some in 24 hours, some over a long weekend or even a week.
We're going to try for the 24 hour challenge!
Our team consists of four walkers and 2 drivers. We leave for Scotland on Friday afternoon and will begin the ascent of Ben Nevis at aprox 4:30 pm on Saturday 20th May. We should be down from the 'Ben' around Dusk and immediately drive to The Lake District. We shall be ascending Scafell Pike from Wastwater in the early hours of the morning and should be down for breakfast in the car as we travel to Snowdon in North Wales. All being well we'll be up and down Snowdon before the stopwatch stops at 24hrs!
I'm going to need your support to keep me going!
