Story

Hi everyone and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page on behalf of Cancer Research UK.

UPDATE: 16-05-2010:

The run was AMAZING, what a fantastic day. 36000 runners took part and the atmosphere was electric. I managed to finish my first 10K in just over 1 hour (60 mins 51 seconds) So happy with that.

Training now continues for the Bupa Great North Run (half-marathan) in September.

This probably looks like a New Years Resolution and maybe it is ! Over the past few years I've probably gained a few too many additional pounds and let my health slide abit, but thats it, 2010, its time for a change.

I also have another reason for wanting to run the Bupa events and that is my mother-in-law was diagnosed with Cancer late 2009 and it was a complete shock to the entire family when we found out. Its not nice to hear of the disease but when its a member of your family then it really does have an immense impact. Feeling helpless in not being able to do anything (apart from obviously our support) I decided that I could at least see if I could raise some money for Cancer Research UK to support the great work that they do and the support they provide to families.

Also an ideal opportunity for me to get myself back into some level of fitness.

So throughout 2010, I plan to run a series of the Bupa Great Runs to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Your donation will support me over the three runs I am doing this year so no need to re-donate for each event (unless you want to ;D)

I am running the Bupa Manchester Great Run (6 miles) in May, the Bupa Great North Run (half-marathon) in September and the Bupa Great South Run (10.5 miles) in October.  A challenge in itself espically when I have not exercised for almost 10 years, but one I will endeavour to complete.

You can track my training progress and progress on the day of each race event at http://runkeeper.com/user/mwitcomb

I'll also be posting photos of the event on this site and you can see them on the Bupa Great Run site as well.
