Story
Thank you for visiting Matt Sumners Memorial fundraising page.
Matts Cremation took take place at Anfield Crematorium, Liverpool on Thursday 17th July 2008 and was attended by very many family and friends. The Sermon and tribute delivered by Rev Linda was such a wonderful mix of sensitivity, humour and anecdote and touched all our hearts.
The reception continued straight afterwards at Dunnys Club, Stalmine Road off Rice Lane (opposite Walton Hospital). The atmosphere was naturally a little sad, but also hopeful and optimistic. Funny little stories about situations that included Matt were abundant. The tears tended to be a mixture of sadness and laughter.
The family asked that there be no flowers, but hopes that friends and family will continue to take the opportunity to make a donation instead, to Zoes Place (details on left of this page). If anyone would like to continue to make donations to the Charity, this memorial page will remain open for 18 months.
The messages of Sympathy have provided much comfort to the family, and we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
A little about Matt
Whatever each of us called Matt, Husband/Lover/Best Friend, Father, Grand Father, Son-in-Law, Brother, Uncle, Father in Law, Brother-in-Law, Friend, we all knew just how special he was.
"A True Gentleman" is the way most people knew him. His wonderfully traditional manners were always impecable and he was a role model for us all.
"Cheerful, funny, unassuming, quiet and always smiling" seems also to be a consensus.
When you got to know him better, you knew that when you needed someone to talk to, Matt was always there and was an excellent listener. He never spoke badly of anyone, and he didn't jump to rash judgements about situations or people.
Matts family was everything to him, and vice versa.
He loved sports of all kinds, especially Football and Boxing. If you know anything about the city of Liverpool, you know that each and every one of us are categorised as 'Blue' or 'Red'. It was clear that Matt was an ardent Everton FC supporter and was excellent at the banter which went along with it. And yet he was also a supporter of the City and never 'bad mouthed' the opposition. Another example of the true Gentleman he always was.
