Event: BUPA Great North Run 2010, on 19 September 2010
We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

So, I'm doing the Great North Run!

Alzheimer's disease affects 26.6 million people worldwide and will affect 1 in 85 people by 2015.  It is a progressive, debilitating, incurable disease which completely destroys the lives not only of the sufferers but of those close to them.

Research programs are ongoing but are massively underfunded.

The Alzheimer's Research Trust is funding world-class research to find ways to cure, prevent or treat Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Their patron is one Sir Terry Pratchett who was diagnosed with an early-onset form of the disease in 2007. Although he made light of it, declaring it an “embuggerance”, he has since raised and donated millions of pounds to the trust in an attempt to raise the profile of what is still a very poorly understood mental illness.

I will be running in memory of my grandma Rose who died of the disease in 2001.

Please help our future generations by donating. Hopefully by then fewer people will have to suffer the awful effects of such a completely destructive illness.

Gift Aid is enabled. Please give generously – lest we forget!

Thanks -

Matthew.
