3 Peaks Challenge · 2 April 2006

We are a leading UK environmental charity, working for the future of our ocean by driving political and social change through people, science and evidence – protecting habitats and regenerating ecosystems in partnership with communities, businesses and governments.

Story

On the 6th/7th July 2006 a team made up of members of the Lancashire Area supporters Group of the Marine Conservation Society will attempt the:-

Three Peaks Challenge

The challenge involves climbing the highest peak in Scotland, England and Wales and the travel between the mountains within a twenty-four hour period.

It is intended to start in Fort William late in the afternoon on Thursday the 6th, climb Ben Nevis then travel south by minibus to Wasdale Head in the Lake District. From Wasdale we will climb Scafell Pike then again go by road to North Wales to climb the third and final peak, Snowdon. Providing all goes to plan we will descend to Llanberis, arriving mid afternoon on Friday the 7th having completed the journey in less than 24 hours.

The small team made up of runners/joggers and walkers will cover about 20 miles on foot and climb almost 3000 metres in total to reach the three summits.

Two other all-important members of the team, the support drivers, will convey the team between the mountains, covering approx. 500 miles on the road.

Training started for the challenge in January, and  we are becoming quite confident of achieving our aims on this very long day out on the hills, but there is still a long way to go!

The object of the challenge is to raise funds for the Marine Conservation Society.  Group members will have individual sponsorship forms or you can donate direct on this web page!

The money we raise will help to continue the Marine Conservation Society’s work to save our seas, shores and wildlife for this and future generations.

Every penny counts so, however much you can afford, please give now.
