Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Meadow was born on the 18th April 2014 with a serious heart condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS)
At 6 days old Meadow underwent open heart surgery at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital (GOSH). Meadow was doing great and went on to the ward within a few weeks. After spending a few days on the ward Meadow had a bad turn and her breathing went downhill, she was ventilated and within hours was taken back down to intensive care where the next day 7th May she had the big open heart surgery 'The Norwood Procedure' after 6 long hours Meadow was out of theatre, the operation went well but unfortunately the right side of her heart was unable to take over and we was asked by a head consultant if Meadow could be put on heart bypass (ECMO) or she wasn’t going to survive.
Meadow managed to come off of the heart bypass within a few days and after 3 months on intensive care spending a month being ventilated, catching a number of infections/septicimia, bed sores, a bleed on the brain and many other complications we had been told to prepare for the worst on many occasions but our little fighter managed to get herself well enough to be discharged and make her way back upstairs to the ward. Everything was going well and it was there that we found ourself becoming a bit more of a normal family playing, bathing and taking Meadow for walks in her pram around the ward.
It was on the 28th August that our world fell apart, we was told the night before that Meadow was going to be moved to her own cubicle the next morning where one of us (me or her daddy) would be able to stay with her, On that morning we went up to find Meadow had gone for an X-Ray due to a few problems with her feeding tube not being in place, she was finally brought back with the nurses we had also spoken to the doctors who seemed very pleased and there was even talk for Meadow possible coming home very soon. That afternoon me and Meadows daddy planned to come back home to Hertfordshire to collect some items for one of us to be able to stay over with Meadow that night, after having a lovely cuddle, kiss, seeing her beautiful smile and taking a picture of Meadow we left her soundly sleeping in her cot where it was the last time we ever got to see her awake, alive and breathing on her own.

We got the worst call of our life within a few hours of leaving Meadow to say we need to rush back to GOSH urgently as she wasn’t good at all. When we finally got there it was then that we got told the terrible news that Meadow had already suffered 2 cardiac arrests and they had been resuscitating for 45 minutes. I stood by Meadows side begging her to get better holding her hand with tears running down my face, why was this happening? What had we done wrong? Why is this beautiful strong little girl having to go through this? The doctors and nurses spent hours treating, giving blood and trying everything possible to save Meadows life but it just wasn’t enough and it was at 8:52am on the 29th August that Meadow sadly passed away with plenty of love and care around her.

Our little star managed to touch many peoples lives from doctors and nurses, friends and family and even complete strangers. Great Ormond Street Hospital Flamingo Ward CICU were absolutely amazing they gave us 4 and a half months with our baby girl, they went from being doctors and nurses to Meadows family and our good friends and for that we will always be thankful for...

We have set this page up to raise the funds for Little Hearts Matter to be able to provide 3 Road shows per year travelling around, spreading awareness and helping to support those with half a working heart.

As a family we want to be able to keep Meadows Memory alive and we do this through Animai Therapy giving the opportunity for the Elderly, Vulnerable and Disabled to interact with Animals in which they wouldnt usually get the opportunity to. Please check out our Facebook page Meadows Dreams
