June Update

Well guys we made it! and it wasnt too difficult -honest :)

We made the right decision to do the peaks over three days as it gave us time to enjoy the beautiful scenery .

We were blessed with good weather travelling up to Scotland on Thursday and again on Friday and Saturday when we did Ben Nevis and Scafell respectively although the weather wasnt so bright on Saturday in Wales for Snowdon.

I would recommend the challenge as it is just that ,you can set your own pace -some do it in 24 hours and race up down- onto the next peak ,up down onto the 3rd peak up down and thats it.

Our group made the decision to allow for us all to enjoy the walk sometimes we separated when others went a bit faster but we always waited and caught up as a group. We had some good talks and great laughs and it was surprising the variety of people you meet during the three days- some of whom were in the pub but mostly on the mountain.

It wasn't all smooth going however, poor Stella had blisters under her toenail which was very uncomfortable and Denise tramped on too despite a hip/groin strain ealry on in the challenge. They sang songs and made some up for Jimmy and Billy our 2 leaders and were really good for the team spirit

Ricky who was relatively new to the experience loved it and was like a mountain goat he'd have happily kept on walking. He was mystified at all the people who hade apparently lost their skis and were left with the ski poles only, we didn't like to shatter his little world poor thing.

Joe took his time -with his dodgy knees he had no choice but he did brilliantly even with some blisters on his feet too. You'd never know he was the elder statesman of the group he was quiet yet determined and was a great example of what you can do if you just try.

Jimmy Billy's brother was the fashion star of the trip with his variety of hats each day- he led us on the last day and decided part way down from Snowdon to do another descent route involving another climb and scrambling across a ridge it was tiring and added an extra 2 hours on our descent but we loved it- despite the name calling sometimes:) so thanks Jimmy!

From a reluctant walker several weeks ago I loved the challeng too although I think I am a fair weather walker- so we really were lucky to have glorious sunshine for 3 of our 4 days including the journey to Scotland.I was also lucky enough not to have any injuries as did Ricky ,Billy and Jimmy which helped no end.

Our great leader Billy led from the front and the rear ,keeping our morale up with his humour-very understated yet so patient .He was also so thoughtful that he brought along a little memento to leave on Ben Nevis for one of our Keep Fitters -Charlie who sadly died several weeks earlier it was a typically thoughtful gesture of Billy which was much appreciated and we girlies shed a tear or two on Nevis as we said another farewell to Charlie.

So it was a really enjoyable trip and one which I would recommend as long as you go prepared and with responsibe  leaders who know the routes and take time to keep updated on weather and mountain conditions etc.

BIG THANKS TO MY FELLOW WALKERS THANKS FOR YOUR COMPANY AND PATIENCE AND THE CHANCE TO TAKE PART OF THIS WONDERFUL CHALLENGE XXXXX

SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL WHO ARE KIND ENOUGH TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO THE CHARITIES WE ARE SUPPORTING XX

Hiya ,

for a relatively new walker this is a big challenge.

Some of our Keep Fit group members-Billy(no mates),Jimmy( where's my compass?),Denise(check out that roadkill)Stella( the teller)Ricky(the quiet man)and Joe(what time is it?) decided a few months ago to try for the 3 Peaks Challenge with a difference.

We are hoping to enjoy the Challenge so decided to do the Peaks over three days rather than risk injury by rushing it.Besides which we're no spring chickens.

So next FRIDAY is the first day of walking so wish us luck.

Linda (can't stop I'll seize up) :)
