We offer support, advice and information to UK families affected by retinoblastoma

Story

Another year has past already and I've decided I am going to brave the waters on Christmas day again for a very good cause!

A very close friend was diagonsed with Retinoblastoma at the age of 12months and was successfully treated thanks to the excellent work carried by the Doctor's and Nursing staff at St Barts hospital.

Retinoblastoma occurs in early childhood and affects about 1 child in 20,000. The tumor develops from the immature retina - the part of the eye responsible for detecting light and color. There are both hereditary and non-hereditary forms of retinoblastoma. IN the hereditary form, multiple tumors are found in both eyes, while in the non-hereditary form only one eye is effected and by only one tumor.

Untreated, retinoblastoma is almost uniformly fatal, but with early diagnosis and modern methods of treatment the survival rate is over 90%.

All donations will go directly to the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust to help with the continued research into the condition.
