Virgin London Marathon 2012 · 22 April 2012 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am RUNNING this years London Marathon (yes that is 26.2 miles!!) to raise money for Crohn's and Colitis UK (NACC). Crohn’s disease is a chronic, long-term autoimmune condition that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive system. It is a rare condition and there is currently no cure for Crohn’s disease.

My sister Lydia was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2009 two weeks after her 16th birthday. It is difficult to explain the impact that it has had on Lydia's life but to say that it has meant she can't lead a normal life would be an under statement. Lydia has had to take various different types of medication over the past 2 years to try and stabilise her condition, at times up to 20 tablets per day including steroids and chemotherapy. She has been in and out of hospital for numerous tests and to receive infusions regularly. Lydia hasn't been able to go out with her friends, at the worst times she was house bound and was forced to give up studying for her A-levels because she was too poorly to go to school. Throughout all of this she never complains or makes a fuss... so I will try not to complain whilst running 26.2 miles!

Crohn's and Colitis UK (NACC) provides an information and support service to people with the condition and also helps to fund research into finding a cure for the disease so please dig deep and sponsor me.... it will be very much appreciated :)

Thank you
Michaela xx
