Story

Thanks for visiting my fund raising page.

As most of you know I have had Crohn's Disease for over 20 years and during that time I have undergone over 21 different operations including having had most of my intestines chopped out!! During my bouts of illness I have been very lucky to have had an amazing wife and family to support me and aid my recovery and have been privileged to have been treated by some of the best doctors and surgeons in the world. It's time now to give back.

A lot of you have supported my fund raising activities over the years and fantastic friends have helped me to organise events, well now its time to fly solo! With my son's bar mitzvah over it is time for a personal challenge. I wanted to do something that would keep me fit, something that would stretch my physical well being and something that would hopefully raise a lot of money.

You don't know how hard it is to find a bike event just for Crohn’s Disease here in the UK.  There are none, so I’ve got to fly over the pond to find this incredible event to try and reach my goal. That goal is a 210 mile bike ride down the side of the Hudson River (no not in the river as some pilots like to do!!) but from New York to Syracuse.  It will mean cycling 70 miles a day for 3 days. My wife is part of the crew and then it’s just me, my bike, a sore bottom (from riding, not from my Crohn’s I hope!) and the open road.

I know that there are a million and one different incredible causes out there and in this difficult time making a donation is not a top priority but anything, whatever the size is incredible and will make the journey that bit easier.

Every day of my life I take umpteen tablets just to keep going.  Getting out of bed is one of the hardest things I have to do.   I rely on so many others to help get through and for this challenge it is all about me and reaching my goal of raising loads of money. My money raised will go to the St Mark's Hospital Foundation which is the leading hospital of its kind, specialising in trying to find a cure for Crohn’s Disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases. The medical teams there are incredible and deserve only the best. It is my intention to raise as much as possible to help them in their quest. It’s not just about me; I am 40 (yes this cycling has obviously aged me!!!) and have lived with Crohn’s for long enough.  I am used to swallowing the pills daily but it is about those kids whose daily lives are literally ruined;  who spend hours on the toilet; whose school life is a living nightmare through pain and suffering. I am raising money to help find a cure for them.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: St Mark's Hospital Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
