Story

Update! 23 Sep 09

Well the race is run, a great experience. Match report, a game of 2 halves! Up until halfway everything was on target to beat my last time of 4 hrs 30. We were 1 hr 58 to 21 km the half way mark, feeling good. Then someone injected some lead into my legs and I started going backwards from there; the second half was run in 2 hrs 38 so finishing time 4 hrs 36. Injury free though and finished in the top half! There were 48,000 runners! Came in 21,319th! Top half! We had a great weekend, the weather was fantastic, would we do it again........

Thanks to everyone who supported me, it was really good of you. I have added some up to date photos of the day. We are on track for the target with a final push.

It was all worth it for Harry.

Hi

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Just like Sir Steve Redgrave after his 4th Gold medal, I said after the London marathon in 2003, if you see me anywhere near a marathon course you have my permission to shoot me! But it was in a moment of alcoholic bravado that my running partner and friend Mark Hackland  persuaded me to do one more and so the madness continues. It was going to be New York first but we couldn't get time off so Berlin has been picked. We're off for a nice weekend to Berlin in september to sightsee, eat drink and be merry and complete a little jog in the meantime. Training has just begun with 16 weeks to go and it is safe to say the enormity of the task is breathtaking, if you'll excuse the pun!

Why MPS? The headmaster at the children's school, Paul Hudson, is a remarkable man whose little boy Harry who is 4 has Hunter's syndrome a form of MPS. Paul does so much for our children, I feel this, in some very small way, does something for him and his lovely family.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me. The Society For Mucopolysaccharide Diseases gets your money faster and if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

If you would like to sponsor me for what I assure you will be my last event of its sort, I would be extremely grateful.

thank you

Mike
