This is the website that Miles set up last year to obtain sponsorship for the Chenies walk organised by the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre and this is his message.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I intended to go on a 5-mile walk on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May to raise money for the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital where I am a patient. Unfortunately I spent the afternoon on a drip in hospital instead, but I will do my best to complete the walk at some point soon.

The scanners in the Paul Strickland Centre are some of the most advanced in the world and are an essential part of cancer treatment for people from all over the country. They are also play a key role in several advanced research projects.

I have been in one of their scanners and it was jolly comfortable.

Miles passed away on the morning of Monday 8 August 2005 at Mount Vernon hospital. He had a malignant melanoma that had metastasised to the liver and brain.

Miles remained positive until the end. I, and many others, feel inspired by his attitude. We are grateful for all the support we received during his illness which  gave us a special time of friendship and closeness rather than the nightmare that it could have been.

We were particularly heartened by the support given to Miles' fundraising through this site and through the spin off activities organised by our friends.

Miles was awarded a CSV Year of the Volunteer Award for Commitment. We  collected a medal on his behalf on 5 January 2006.

We have redone the Chenies walk in both 2006 and 2007 and hope to make this an annual event. You are most welcome to join us.
