Cycle Update - We Made it!
Cycle Update - 23 September
am pleased to report we have re-arranged our sponsored cycle
ride for this weekend. We’ll be setting
off from Milton Keynes at around 8am on Saturday and returning sometime on
Sunday afternoon, approx 100 miles later.
If any of you are interested in tracking our progress over
the weekend you can see where we are at any time simply by logging onto Google! A combination of Google Maps and a telephone
with GPS and internet access makes all this possible.
To do so is quite simple
1 – Goto
www.google.co.uk
2 – Click “sign In” which is normally top right
3 – Sign into Google with a e-mail address of
cycle@wallond.co.uk and a login of goodcause
4 – Click on iGoogle which is also normally top right
Hopefully you will see Google Maps with a marker to show
where we are.
We’ll send out an update on Sunday evening to let you know
how we got on!
Kindest Regards
Richard, Martyn, Tom & Elliot
CYCLE UPDATE - 11th SeptemberWe were due to take part in our epic bike ride this
weekend, but unfortunately Martin's mum has been admitted to hospital, so we've
decided to postpone the ride by a week or two.
Thanks for all your donations to date though. We've nearly hit our target of £1250
so perhaps we'll manage that with another week or two to go.
Thanks again.
We'll let you know the new date for the ride when we've got it
replanned.
LAST YEARLast year Tom and I cycled 50 miles in one day from Milton Keynes to Market Harborough. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day out and managed to raise about £1200 in the process for a really special cause (see below).
If you'd like to see how we got on last year take a look at the photos on the following link: Photos from the Day
THIS YEARDuring the depths of winter I foolishly suggested to Tom that we should repeat this event but raise the bar. Somehow I ended up agreeing that we could attempt at least 100 miles in 2 days over a weekend!
We then wondered if any of our friends would like to join us on this "fun" event. I was delighted to persuade another Dad and their Lad to join is. Worth pointing out that both Lads belong to Furzton Scout Group so this event must contribute to a badge or two!
THE EVENTOur plan is to cycle from MK to Market Harborough, stop over somewhere (at our own cost of course) and then return to MK (all downhill...) the following day. So easy to put it into words but methinks it might be a bit more difficult to accomplish.
UTANGE ORPHANAGEOne of my colleages at work told me of a charity they have joined forces with to provide an orphanage in Kenya, for children whose parents have died of Aids.
It really is quite an inspiring story. While on holiday in Kenya, one family from the UK went on a tourist trip to get a taste of normal village life. While in the village they discovered a group of children without parents; all relying on the good will of the local minister, who was struggling to provide even basic accommodation for them, let alone food, medicine and schooling.
In the 18 months or so they have bought a piece of land and built 2/3 of the orphanage which already is being used to help some very needy children. Now they need to finish the last part of the building and raise sufficient money to ensure it can continue in operation in the forthcoming years.
It is an inspiring story and it would be great if any of you could spare a few £ to help them. The following link provides some more details about the project:
Utange Orphanage ProjectDONATINGDonating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Sure Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
