Story

WE DID IT!!!!

What an amazing journey we had.  The group of people (all 35 of them) we were with are such an inspiring team that you always had the support you need to do that last extra bit.  It really made you realise how much we take for granted.  What we achieved was so much more than they can ever imagine.  It really gave you the motivation to complete each day.

We both coped brilliantly with no blisters, no aches or pains.  It is a trip that I will never forget.  Thank you all who donated.  For those of you who haven't yet - you still can!!

A photo of both of us on the trek will go up in due course.

Thanks again for all your support!  We both appreciated it.

Update 4:- OK so it is 4 weeks on Sunday until we go....  Walking the 10km home from work 2/3 nights a week is getting enjoyable (did I really just say that?) especially when friends join in! So thanks to you all especially Nicci and Suki!  Walking up hills is another challenge and with the knee playing up is not such great fun but I am sure that it will get better....  Certainly loking forward to the few days rest after the trek in Las Vegas!  This weekend - another Box Hill trip! and then Salisbury Plain on Sunday.

Thank you once again for all your support - it means such a lot to us both.  Mx

Update 3:- Well we went to Yorkshire we started our challenge at 7.30am (slightly ahead of the 300 Macmillan walkers!) heading up Pen-y-gent (so of the time on our hands and knees climbing!!!) hitting some wind and a bit of rain at the top so not much of a view.  We ploughed on and treked across bogs (yes up to my knees at one point), over more hills and then we hit the bottom of Whernside.  There was a pub so we decided to have a break, a bite to eat before going up number 2.  Getting to the top was a long gentle climb - absolutely knackering but the views were fantastic!  Then hthe horrendous decent of a very very steep face most of it rocky.  coming down is when we started seeing the Mountain Rescue land rovers conming out and the weather closing in around Ingleborough.  We still had time but decided that on our first outing (with no prior trainin!) a walk across the fields to the pub was a far better plan than hitting the weather and the worst peak of all.  That still took us 1.5 hours though so in total a 10 hour walk covering about 18 miles is not bad with no training.  Our view (for what it is worth) - if we can handle a day like that we can handle the Grand Canyon.  We will go back (after a bit of training!!!) to do the 3 Peaks so if anyone is up for it - let us know!

Thanks once again for all your support! lol Moe x

Update 2:- Ok so it has been a while since I updated the site....  I just wanted to say a huge Thank you to Synergy Group who hosted a great day at Silverstone on Saturday where I managed to raise another £70 thanks to peoples bad choice of cars in the sweep stakes..  (that obviously includes myself!!)    Well the next challenge is on Saturday when Lara and I are off to Yorkshire to walk the 3 Yorkshire Peaks in 12 hours - should be interesting.....  Photos will be posted in due course.  Thank you again to everyone who has donated you have all been amazing!  lol Moe x

Update 1:-  Well after a work quiz night in the pub I managed to raise £1700!  Off to a flying start! Cash is coming in slowly but surely .......  we are getting there!  lol Moe x

We are about to embark on the biggest challenges of our lives and we need your support!!!!

In November we will be travelling to America to take part in a 75km trek in the Grand Canyon for Scope.  We are taking this challenge very seriously (after the 6 nations obviously!!) and we will be training very hard whilst completing some other significant challenges along the way - for instance the 3 Yorkshire Peaks, and various runs.

We are confident that this will prepare us for the strenuous task ahead with at least a trek of between 14-16km per day covering the sides and base of the canyon.  Sleeping under the stars rather than in a bed!

We really hope that you will support us as Scope is really important to both of us. Every 6 hours a child is born with cerebral palsy, it is the most commonly diagnosed physical condition in the UK and occurs around the time of birth when parts of the brain fail to develop properly.  This condition jumbles messages between brain and muscles and can make it hard to talk, sit or walk these are basic functions that we all take for granted.

The money raised will allow Scope to continue to support disabled people in every aspect of their lives.  In our case we are primarily interested in supporting people getting into the work place.

Just £60 is enough for a single chin switch that operates equipment such as an electric wheelchair or a computer, and £6 will buy an adapted potato peeler.

ALL the money raised will go to the Charity as we are paying our own way on the trek.  So please give generously….… the more the better as the individuals that Scope support cannot take things like using a computer for granted.

Thank you so much!!  We will keep you updated with our fundraising events over the next few months for example, auction items, cake sales, swimming challenges … the list goes on……   We are both incredibly grateful for all the money donated particularly as finances are tight for many of us at this time.

P.S. Dont forget if youre a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation to Scope.
